Phillips Tube Group Selects Wayne County for First Indiana Location

Phillips Tube Group, a welded steel tube manufacturer, announced they will locate a new facility in Richmond located at 401 Industrial Parkway in the Eastern Indiana Industrial Park. The company plans to invest $8.2 million and hire 30 new full-time employees by 2024 paying an average hourly wage of $26. CEO and owner of Phillips Tube Group, Angela Phillips says Richmond, Wayne County, and Indiana did a fantastic job. “On behalf of Phillips Tube Group, let me first say thank you to the State of Indiana, the EDC of Wayne County, and the City of Richmond who have done a fantastic job of creating an environment of success for our new plant. The Midwest region of the U.S., and Indiana in particular, represents our priority market for growth as our company continues to gain market share. Richmond’s business-friendly environment, skilled workforce, and interstate location make this new facility primed for success.”

The company received approval from both the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) of Wayne County Board of Directors and the Wayne County Board of Commissioners for a $98,500 Economic Development Income Tax (EDIT) Grant at their July board meetings. The EDIT grant can be used to offset the cost of building renovations, purchase and installation of equipment, and employee training. The company has identified the Richmond location as a high technology center with the goal of using the highest technology equipment available.  Phillips says, “Our investment in this facility represents the most technologically advanced machinery and processing equipment in the industry.” EDC president Valerie Shaffer says it’s great to have another company choose Wayne County as their first Indiana location. “The company’s plans to make the Richmond facility a high technology center demonstrates their confidence in this location.”

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Phillips Tube Group up to $325,000 in conditional tax credits based on the company’s job creation plans. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning the company is eligible to claim incentives once Hoosiers are hired. “Indiana has a rich history in steel production, making safe and reliable products for customers around the world,” says Indiana Secretary of Commerce Jim Schellinger. “It’s an exciting day for Indiana and the city of Richmond as we welcome Phillips Tube Group to the Hoosier state. We look forward to supporting the company’s growth and success in Indiana with the help of our state’s skilled workforce.” Phillips says she believes this plant will solidify Philips Tube Group as North America’s premier steel tube manufacturer serving automotive, RV, HVAC, and appliance industries. “We look forward to opening our new location this fall in the Hoosier state. Thank you, Indiana!”
